What is the Grand National Teams (GNT)?
The GNT is a grass roots event where you start by qualifying at the club level. Then you compete at the District level and winners represent our District at the NABCs.However, in 2026-2027, District Six is NOT requiring players to be club qualified to enter the district-level final. This year, the Flight C and B competitions will be held entirely the weekend of Jan 30-31, 2027. The first weekend of Flight A will be March 6-7, 2027 and the first weekend of the Open/Championship Flight will be held Jan 30-31, 2027. Details concerning sites and second weekend schedules are in the Conditions of Contest for 2026-2027 which will be posted soon.
How many flights are there in the GNT?
There are four separate flights. Each flight is set up as a championship event against your peers. Your masterpoint count as of September 1, 2026 identifies your flight eligibility:
Open Flight (unlimited masterpoints)
Flight A (0-6000 mps)
Flight B (0-3000 mps)
Flight C (0-750 mps and a non Life Master)
How do I enter the District competition?
Find teammates. 4, 5, or 6 person teams are allowed. In early December there will be a link to an online registration form on the District Six website to register your team in the Open, B and C flights. The registration form for flight A will be posted after that, when details for that event are finalized.
Why is there more than one site?
We are trying to avoid long travel times as much as possible. Since the District can send two teams to the NABC final in some flights, provided enough teams enter, there will be a Flight C competition in Richmond this cycle.
Our team finds it difficult to free up time for the whole weekend?
Form a five or six person team. Regardless of the number of players on your team, the rules stipulate that each team member must intend to play half the boards or half the total sessions. So if you have a team member who can only play specific days or specific weekends, work your lineups accordingly.
