Grand National Teams

Grand National Teams FAQ

What is the Grand National Teams (GNT)?

The GNT is a grass roots event where you start by qualifying at the club level. Then you compete at the District level and winners represent our District at the NABCs.

How many flights are there in the GNT?

There are four separate flights. Each flight is set up as a championship event against your peers. Your masterpoint count as of September 1, 2009 identifies your flight eligibility:

  • Open Flight (unlimited)
  • Flight A (0-6000)
  • Flight B (0-2500)
  • Flight C (0-500 and a non Life Master)

How do I enter the District competition?

Find teammates. 4, 5, or 6 person teams are allowed. You do not have to play at the District level with the team you qualify with at the a local club game. However, everyone on your team must be club qualified. For help in finding local club GNT games, see the District 6 website, www.districtsix.org. Then enter at the District level location most convenient for you. See Latest Info.

Why is there more than one site?

We are trying to avoid long travel times as much as possible. By having sites in Silver Spring and Charlottesville for Flights ‘B’ and ‘C’ most players have less than an 2 hour drive to reach a site.

What happens after my team advances at my local site?

The champions of each local site come together for a second weekend in Silver Spring, Maryland. Flight C teams play one day and the other flights play one or two days depending on whether the team advances. The winning team in each Flight receives $2000 to offset the costs of competing at the NABCs where they will have a chance to win a National Championship.

Our team finds it difficult to free up time for four specific weekend days?

Form a five or six person team. Regardless of the number of players on your team, the rules stipulate that each team member must intend to play half the boards or half the total sessions. So if you have a team member who can only play specific days or specific weekends, work your lineups accordingly. Also two session substitute are possible (see the D6 Conditions of Contest).
